Day 4: San Diego Whale Watching Cruise

Saturday was a day of adventure. We were off on a Whale watching cruise. Yes, of course, we forgot our binoculars, but we got to see plenty I guess. The city of San Diego, as we cruised out of the Harbor, was beautiful. In the morning it was hazy. But afternoon as we came back was spectacular, with sail boats every where joyriding out to the sea. We passed the double dome building where Josh works at on the Navy base. There were sea lions on the big buoys, and sea turtles and birds. Very awesome. The sea were 2-3 feet inland, and 3-4 feet out land. They announced over the loud speaker and they have some of the seasickness medicine at the snack bar if you feel you will need it. I comment to Bill that he better get some cause he is prone to seasickness, but he told me they were just trying to make money! "OK," I said.... We got a ways out to sea, and it hit him! After about 45 minutes, we saw the first whale spouts. I never did get a good picture of any of them, and they were always way across the way, so by the time we got to them, there was no whale to be seen. They man standing beside me the whole time had binoculars - with a built-in camera and gave a nice commentary on what he was seeing . So he got some good views and pictures, but oh welll.. or should I say "oh, whale!" LOL! I did get a few good shots of some dolphins who were swimming along side of us. The guy who was commentating on the loud speaker said it was quite rare for these dolphins to get up by the boats like that, but I felt a bit doubtful as I know our dolphins here on the Gulf Coast absolutely love swimming along side of the boats!! But these dolphins did look a bit different and were a lot smaller, so I guess I will give him the benefit of the doubt. In the end, I found Deborah and Bill hanging out being seasick together, but neither really were very bad off, thankfully!! Most of the kids were asleep and Josh was watching them. It was fun tho!!!

Here is some more....

Just a few more pictures of Legoland... There was a guard snoozing as he guarded the gate...so we snuck on in.... we found a band playing, (and they actually did move like they were playing). Jonas found a couple of knights to challenge there, and Papaw and Maddie found an ugly ole troll blacksmith to hang out with. Eliza rode on her very first ever roller coaster ride on the Coastersaurus, and she loved it!! Wyatt pointed the way, and Jonas & Maddie & Eliza went through Driver's Training.

Day 3: San Diego, Feb 13, 09 continued.....

The Lego guys seemed to attract Deborah, and hey... like mother, like daughter!!

DAY 3: San Diego Visit - Friday, Feb 13, 2009

We had (probably) our most fun day of our visit when we decided to celebrate Jonas's 7th birthday at Legoland. It was totally awesome!!! I honestly thought it was every bit as great as Disney and maybe ,even better. I couldn't help but think of Jake, because years ago, he declared himself a Lego Maniac! We were all pretty sure about the Maniac part...lol... no just kidding, Jake! (I am pretty sure it used to be part of Legos Theme song.) Any ways, the things they made outta Legos were simply amazing. Take a look at some of these pictures! Made out of Legos, the animals, people ect...are for the most part life size.

DAY 2: Friday in Dan Diego, Continued.....

SAN DIEGO ZOO
We were greeted by this big ole peacock before we even got in the gate of the zoo, he served to get the kids super excited about what we were about to see. First we went to the petting zoo. Jonas wasn't even a little afraid of the farm animals but Eliza & Maddie were a bit shy of them. They each had favorite things they liked. Jonas pointed out this Cavy, which looked like a porcupine. One of Maddie's favorite animals was this red billed duck. We watched it for a while & she made sure I got a picture of it. Eliza really liked the baby giraffe whose name was Helen. If I remember right, she was almost 3 weeks old. This bigger giraffe was curious about us and walked over to check us out. Eliza also was excited about the monkeys, but I don't have a picture of them. We got to ride the double decker bus, and we even sat up stairs on the top deck right in the front!! Jonas, Maddie and Eliza really liked that! Deborah has more photos of our zoo visit on her "Little Hensley Family" Blog. So make sure to visit that!

DAY 2: San Diego

Before heading off to the San Diego Temple, we took Jonas and Maddie to School. Their school was really cool looking. It was a Spanish style architecture and some unique features about it. Bill & I went in to meet their teachers. Jonas's teacher made me laugh because he said "Hello! It's nice to meet you," then he took me over to show me a valentine's bag project the class was going to do that day. He proceeded to show me that since they were studying compound words, that's what they would be gluing on the sides of the bag!! "like sweet-heart.....," and he got carried away, like he was trying to teach - me like a student, what a compound word was. "You see its two words you put together to make one!" LOL! Deborah just turns and walks away!! It made me laugh! So then, off we went to meet Maddie's teacher, and I do remember her teacher's name. Mr. Laguarda. He seemed very nice also. But, he also made me laugh. I ask him if in could take a picture of him and Maddie together. He said yes and he tells Maddie come here. Deborah whispers in my ear, "Don't you think he resembles Joey:?!" I turn back around to look and didn't see him, then I realized he had sat down on the floor with Maddie! It seemed like a strange thing, but I did get a good picture of them!! Josh says Mr. Laguarda doesn't look like Joey...Deborah thinks he does, what do u think?
Afterwards, we dropped Eliza & Wyatt off at a sitter and we went to the San Diego Temple. It is my 2nd favorite temple after the Washington DC Temple. It is so beautiful inside and out. Winter Quarters is in the top 3 also! Afterwards we hurried back to the school to get the kids. Here are some pictures, then we were off to visit the world famous San Diego Zoo.

Our Trip to San Diego

DAY 1: Dad had to work. So Wednesday afternoon we headed to the New Orleans Airport, to fly out to San Diego via Los Angeles. From the air, Los Angeles seemed to stretch out forever. Lots and lots of lights as far as the eye can see at night time! We got in to San Diego and Josh was there to meet us even tho we arrived a little ahead of schedule. Deborah and the kids were home sleeping, since Jonas and Maddie had school the next day.
